Jenny LaRue, Health Educator

Jenny’s main priority for the past 4 years has been tobacco prevention, education and cessation as a Community Health Educator.   She has advised the Perry County K.O.K.A.T. (Keeping Our Kids Away from Tobacco) Youth Coalition and the stand  Team with the help of Karie Montle.

The focus of this group is to reduce the number of teens using tobacco products through fun educational events and activities.  She recruits students and organizes the local STAMP teams for Crooksville and Sheridan High School.  STAMP is an American Cancer Society (ACS) sponsored prevention tool called Stay Tobacco-free Athlete Mentoring Program.  The STAMP program is presented to the sixth grade students at Crooksville, Holy Trinity and Sheridan Middle Schools by the High School Mentors.  The STAMP program will continue through the assistance of staff from Northern Local and Crooksville Village School Districts.

This is the first year that LifeSkill classes will be offered to help prevent the use of tobacco products by children in Perry County.  She will instruct sixth grade students in LifeSkills during January and February at Southern Local School District.  Another class will be offered during the Fall of 2007.

In addition to tobacco prevention, Jenny works with the Perry County Job and Family Services department to increase Asset Building efforts with their clients and families.

Jenny instructs an Arthritis Foundation Exercise program at the Perry County Senior Center on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m...  These classes are FREE and low-impact for all ages.

Jenny has worked with the Perry County Health Department for the past nine and a half years.  She has experience in Asset Development and assisted with the reduction of teen pregnancy through abstinence only education.
